Drag Pop Realness Inspired by Pantone
Year
2018
Following my first solo show in May 2017, a number of buyers complimented the use of colour in my art. I reflected on that feedback. Colour has always been a vital part of my creative process. When I think of colour, I think Pantone. That feedback inspired my 2018 solo show, "Drag Pop Realness Inspired by Pantone" opened on October 13, 2018 at The Freedom Factory in Toronto. I painted a diverse selection of 12 legendary Toronto drag queens, in various Pantone colours of the year. The queens were matched to the colour based on their unique style and/or personality. Each piece is done with acrylic paint on 24" x 30" gallery-style canvas and is styled to appear as a paint chip with the Pantone label and year of the colour. The background of each painting is the particular colour of the year, while the portrait is in various shades of the same colour. My signature is on the side of the canvas, also in the particular colour of the year.
