About the event
In 2018, somebody criticized my partner Fab and I as being “drag groupies” simply because we enjoy drag shows. I thought it was precious that they meant that as an insult. In my mind, drag is the ultimate artistic expression. In order to succeed as a drag queen, you need to excel at so many different art forms: music, dance, hurr, makeup, faSHUN and comedy. What’s so wrong with appreciating art?
At my last art show, many people complimented my use of colour. A carefully curated colour palette is very important to my work. When I think of colour, I think of Pantone.
Combining my interests in drag and colour, I have painted monochromatic portraits of 12 amazing Toronto drag queens, in various Pantone colours of the year. Each queen has some relationship with their colour. In each painting, the background colour is the actual colour of that year and…
